Find your footing in Sokoban

Choose a round of Sokoban and settle into its rules. Push every crate onto a target. Use the example below to understand a decision. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

Practice beyond the first move

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Refer to the controls when needed.

What you need to achieve

Push every crate onto a target. Read that aim before choosing your first action. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

Controls

Arrow keys or direction buttons. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

See the idea in action

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the controls nearby.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Consider the player’s access behind crates. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
